Been There!

Ever say, “Wish I could have been there?”

The two disciples on their private road trip were unexpectedly accompanied by the Creator of the Universe-The Savior of the World!

Unimaginable!

It is astonishing-even more that they DID NOT RECOGNIZE HIM!

“What things?” he asked.“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.” He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”

And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.”

Luke 24:19-27

Wish I could have been there! Jesus, Creator and Savior of the world explained to these two disciples what was “said in ALL he scriptures concerning Himself.”

But this special visit was not for me-or you.

This one-time event was for two grieving disciples. We experience it by reading about it. Think, what would it have been like to be there walking that road with Jesus? Two broken hearted disciples met the Savior on the dusty dry road to Emmaus. They walked with Him, listened to Him explain God’s word and slowly their hearts were healed. Why did Jesus walk with them? Wouldn’t it seem that Jesus had more "important things to do? He had in fact just risen from the dead. But He loved them. He knew what they needed-before they started their “road trip” His plan was to walk with them. He walked with them and strengthened them.

This may have been a onetime event for these two disciples but Jesus does the same for all who seek Him-even today. He has no favorites. He loves all. Jesus knows our hearts. He knows every road trip we plan. We may not see Him-but He goes with us. He takes our burdens and heals us from our greatest burden-our sins.

Wish we could have heard what Jesus said to them.

But that is their story. We do have the entire Bible, they did not.

Like them we are foolish and slow of heart to believe. So Jesus met them there on the road. And with compassion only God has, He meets us on the “road” where we are. He knows our heart’s cry.

Oh, what a Savior He is.

One day those who believe in Him will hear Him teach-in a forever place called heaven.
