Road Trip

Would you agree? Life is a journey…a physical journey from birth to death, with health, sickness, pleasure and pain. Life is journey for the mind. There is happiness and sorrow, contentment and want…a journey. Call it a road trip-it fits.

The disciples were suffering. The were confused, what nonsense were the women who went to the tomb repeating? They were dejected. Two of the despondent disciples chose to leave Jerusalem. Their destination was a village called Emmaus.

That same day two of Jesus’ followers were walking to the village of Emmaus, seven miles from Jerusalem. As they walked along they were talking about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things, Jesus himself suddenly came and began walking with them. But God kept them from recognizing him. He asked them, “What are you discussing so intently as you walk along?”They stopped short, sadness written across their faces. Then one of them, Cleopas, replied, “You must be the only person in Jerusalem who hasn’t heard about all the things that have happened there the last few days.” Luke 24:13-18

These two dejected disciples were on a journey of sadness, confusion and sorrow. Their hope was demolished. Life’s journey for them was unpleasant. This road trip was uncomfortable.

Like us, they forgot something important. Jesus is God, over all. Death cannot keep Him in the grave.

Jesus knew their sorrow and grief.

He knew where they were.

Jesus came to them.

Jesus walked with them.

Jesus comforted them.

Jesus loved them.

Jesus does the same for you and me.

He walks with us on our life journey.

He knows where we are.

He knows our sorrows and grief.

He knows everything about our life journey…even unknown tomorrow.

Best of all? He loves us.

The two disciples didn’t recognize Him at first. Jesus comforted them anyway.

We cannot see Jesus as they did.

Yet Jesus walks with us. He comforts us.

Every day. Every road trip.

He knows everything about our life, death and the future.

Think of it!

The Creator of the universe walks with you.

He lives.

What is one conclusion we can draw from these Bible verses?

We can trust Jesus with our life journey.
