Get Up!

We get it. In a coffin-you must be dead. But he was an only son. Besides, his father had died before him. That left a childless widow. Alone. In grief, in misery and sadness this lady followed her son’s bier, coffin on top. Surrounded by the people of the town of Nain, she wept. Did she wonder what would happen to her next?

But Jesus was in Nain.

It makes a difference when Jesus is in town.

Jesus saw her. He knew her grief. He had compassion on her.

Jesus showed mercy and tender hearted love to her…

“Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd. And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother. Then fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen up among us”; and, “God has visited His people.” And this report about Him went throughout all Judea and all the surrounding region.”

Luke 7:11-17

Life could not knock her down much further. Despair, sorrow and hopelessness were her closest partners. Then Jesus was in town.

She didn’t even ask Him to help. Jesus knew what she needed-before she asked. “Get up,” He said.

That quick, Jesus gave her son back…Alive.

The people glorified God! They said, “God has visited His people!”

It’s true, “God has visited His people.”

Jesus is in your town and mine.

Think of it-Jesus is in the room or place where you are reading this. He sees you. He sees me.

In our sins-we are “dead.” When He touches us, He shows His compassion to us.

When Jesus shows His mercy and tender hearted love...we are made “alive.”

Do not be afraid. God is near. Listen, Jesus is calling …”get up.” Jesus gives us new life.

In Him, that life is eternal.
