Knowledge or Love?

Afternoon Cumulus

Recently we’ve heard a lot from “experts.”

Why do we listen to an expert?

We believe an expert is knowledgeable.

We rely on experts.

They are supposed to know.

Is there a danger in great knowledge?

Knowledge, dangerous? Can it be?

Yes, it can.

Between 53 and 55 A.D. a former Jewish Pharisee,

an “expert” in Jewish scripture and history,

wrote about knowledge.

Speaking frankly: Paul said, “Knowledge puffs up.”

You, know swells pride.

Knowledge, he said, makes arrogance.

He did something surprising.

He compared knowledge with love.

What does love do?

Strengthens, builds others up, and makes us helpful.

Now concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know. But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him. 1 Corinthians 8:1-3
