Learn to Count in 2021

It is an easy statement to make-2020 was not a typical year in the life of most human beings. What made it so? Does a pandemic qualify? Do riots and political unrest make this year unusual? What about rampant fear of becoming ill?

We need some perspective. 2020 was not as unusual as the pundits say. All of these things have happened before. Perhaps they seem unusual because America has largely been spared troubles…till 2020.

There is a lesson to be learned from the past 12 months. Life is not permanent. A vaccine, quarantine, social distancing, even masks do not change this fact. One day, someday, we will all face death. It is an irreversible fact of life…death is coming. Facing such reality, we need to know how to count.

Now…the intent of this piece is not to cause you to seek psychiatric help. Rather, as you read this- realize two truths: we all face death and while we are living there is something we can do about dealing with our deaths. You ask, what do I do about my someday death? Learn to count.

My answer for you and me comes from a man who lived an estimated 3,600 years ago. His name was Moses. He wrote the words of the oldest Psalm. In the 90th Psalm we find these words… “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” One way to “number our days” is to pay attention to God’s Creation. Creation shows us God’s power and love…and reminds us how we fit in. This enables us to count correctly. By paying attention to creation we see the power and love of God…that enables correct counting.

As a new year begins…learn how to count. Learning how to count this way requires setting our wants and priorities aside. Learning to count again is to allow God to teach us to “number our days”

Creator Words would like to help you with seeing how you fit into God’s universe! Knowing our fit in His universe is part of learning to count again. Please accept this year-end gift from Creator Words, 12 photos which provide you with a month-by-month glimpse at creation during the year of COVID. With them a verse from Psalm 90, the oldest Psalm. That’s your gift… photo and a verse to reset your counting mind for 2021.

What will we do with 2021? I suggest we both learn to count. Not count in numeric order…rather, count what God requires. First counting that God is Sovereign-over all; second that we are always in His care; finally, He knows the number of out days. As a new year begins, may the words of Moses and the beauty of God’s creation speak to your heart and teach us to “Number our Days.”

And to each of you Creator Words friends…Happy New Year!
