Motivated to be Content

Then I observed that most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbors. But this, too, is meaningless—like chasing the wind. “Fools fold their idle hands, leading them to ruin.”  And yet,

“Better to have one handful with quietness than two handfuls with hard work and chasing the wind.”

Ecclesiastes 4:4-6 (NLT)

What motivates you?

Could it be envy? Maybe wanting what your neighbor has that sends you to work?

Do you need a bigger salary for a larger house, luxury car, bigger boat?

What motivates you?

If not envy, is it coveting?

Have you tried catching the wind?

Envy and coveting are pointless human desires.

Grasp for the wind all you want.

An empty hand will be your reward.

Envy and coveting a pair which makes every man fool.

While we’re at it-idle hands belong to lazy fools.

What’s the lesson?

Ask God for contentment.

Thank Him for His provision today.

“Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.” Philippians 4:11

Now, get ready to read the bible text again. First consider two truths:

1.      The Bible is God’s Word-it’s all God’s truth.

2.      Solomon was the wisest, richest man in world history. He HAD all the things we think we need. What did he tell us was best? Quietness (contentment).

Time to read Solomon’s counsel again. Then ask God for contentment.
