All Authority

The Sermon on the Mount ends.

We would have been amazed…astonished to hear Jesus. The people who heard Him were.

What amazed them?

Authority.

Jesus’ authority.

Jesus speaks with power, then-now.

In person Jesus’ words staggered the human mind.

Jesus’ infinite authority of wasn’t just Matthew’s idea.

Jesus said.

Matthew ends his account with these words from Jesus:

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”

So what?

Jesus is all-powerful expert of experts.

Nothing, no one seen or unseen has more power-or right to be heard and believed.

Jesus-true power over all.

Be amazed.

Believe.

28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
