A Name to Remember

His name was Melchizedek. Remember that name and what goes with it. Right, the name's not on the list of most used names for boys. Still, put his name on your personal list of important people. Melchizedek. When you read the word Melchizedek see Jesus.

Who was this person with the nearly impossible name to pronounce? We find the first answer in Genesis 14:17-20:

When you read about Melchizedek see Jesus. Abraham was blessed by Melchizedek upon his return from the rescue of Lot. Abraham gave a tithe to Melchizedek. What did Melchizedek, the "high priest" do for Abraham?

He blessed him.

Surprise. Jesus blesses you and me continually. Today, Jesus is called our high priest. He sits at the right hand of God in heaven. But Jesus does not sit idle. He is praying for us NOW. He is God’s High Priest forever...

"Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us." Romans 8:34

Melchizedek is a picture of Jesus. The writer to the Hebrews gives us more:

"For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most-High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,

and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace.

He is without father or mother or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God he continues a priest forever." Hebrews 7:1-3

Now, pause at the words that are used to king Melchizedek’s name. His name means "king of righteousness" and Salem means king of peace. Perhaps you are not surprised, but these words describe the KING OF KINGS-JESUS!

In verse 3 of Hebrews 7 we read: "He is without father or mother or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God he continues a priest forever." Jesus!

"The Lord Jesus comes out of eternity, and moves into eternity. He has no beginning and no end. He IS the end. You can't go beyond Him in the past and you can't get ahead of Him in the future. He encompasses all of time and eternity"**...Jesus keeps on being our High Priest...blessing us with His righteousness and peace...think of this! His name is one to remember.

Here is the incomprehensible thought: every day we are prayed for by Jesus- for all of time and eternity.
