The Battle for Our Thoughts

Your phone likely will tell you how much time you spent last week using it. It may even break the use into categories.

What if we could receive a weekly report of the amount of time, we "fix our thoughts" on Jesus? Now that would be spiritually healthy information! It leads to a second question: How much do we think about Jesus? He is the Author and Perfecter of faith.

The writer of Hebrews tells us Jesus is greater than Moses. To a Hebrew, Moses was a giant. Here, in Hebrews we are told Jesus is worthy of greater honor than Moses. Put yourself in the place of a Hebrew to catch the significance of this fact.

Here is the thought for the day: Jesus is the "worthy ONE." He is alone worthy of our continuous thoughts.

Come around this idea from the other side...what things do we spend our time thinking about? Work? Errands? A round of golf? Some kind of recreation? Sex? Buying the next stuff? A bigger house? A steak? The BIG game?

We're just getting started with what humans think about!

This passage from Hebrews tells us to fix our thoughts on Jesus. What happens when we "fix" our thoughts?

First, there can be no argument with this either, our thoughts are broken. Our thoughts need fixing. Our thoughts are filled with sin. Friend, we are instructed to fix our thoughts today. And how do we do that? Take your thought life to Jesus. These verses instruct us, "Jesus is the faithful Son OVER GOD’S HOUSE." And-we are God's house...Jesus is in charge. He’s sovereign.  We can tell Jesus about the battle of our thoughts. He already knows them all and He knows when, and how to fix them.

Second, to fix means to decide. Today, decide to fix your thoughts on Jesus. It will be a battle. Our enemy, Satan will throw everything at us. He wants our thoughts on anything BUT JESUS.

Do not despair, Jesus is the Victor. He is how we win the "battle of our thoughts." He has given us His word. Read the Bible. He has given us prayer. To win the thought battle for Jesus we can pray!

Friend, hold on to the courage and the hope Jesus always gives! He is the way to a victory in the battle of thoughts.

We can win this battle, when we give our thoughts and life to Jesus.

FROM THE BOOK OF HEBREWS 3:1-6

"Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest. He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. “Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory."
