The Ultimate Authority
WE need a good question to think deeply on…
Whose word is of greatest importance?
For example…Would you take what I say as the ultimate response on any subject? I hope not. How about yours? Sorry, same answer. Perhaps there is another person who comes to mind? Again, I hope not. To get to the bottom of this we’ll use another series of questions: Who among us has power to make things by speaking? Do we know anyone who can speak a word and make a dead person come alive? How about someone who can speak a word and make plants and animals? Stars? Sun? Moon? Is there anyone we know who can speak a word and make a human?
Now for the question again: “Whose word is of greatest importance?” Whose word has all power and authority? The answer is the same ONE who knows all things. This would be One whose word is of greatest significance and certainly greatest importance. Call Him the Ultimate Authority.
The answer you’ve likely guessed-it’s God.
Want to be reminded of something amazing? The WORD of God is in print. We can read the WORD of God. Yes, He has the power to force us to read it. But He doesn’t. Instead, God wants a relationship with us. He loves you and me. The Bible is one of His love gifts to us. When we read the Bible, God speaks to our hearts.
The Bible is the authority and power of God-in print…a living book you and I can pick up and read. When we read it, I already said it once…God speaks…it happens even when we become distracted or don’t understand. This is because the Bible is living. Whether we sense it or not God is at work on our hearts when we read the Bible.
We want that to happen.
Our enemy (remember he’s a roaring lion) wants us to believe what we hear from media…and people who have no authority. These sadly, are mostly lies. God’s Word is truth and can actually change us for eternity …
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
Romans 12:2
The truth is found in the Bible…use the Bible to determine truth…take what others say is truth and compare their words with what God’s Word says…
“And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures, day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.”
Acts of the Apostles 17:11
Anchor your life on God’s Word…make it what you believe, make His Word your life values. All the lies that come each day will not shake your life off its foundation-the ALL-POWERFUL WORD OF GOD…it is our defensive and offensive “sword.”
“… take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
Ephesians 6:17
Jesus told Satan three times while the devil tempted Him-“It is written…then Jesus spoke scripture to the devil, and the devil was defeated.
Perhaps this last word should have been first…accept as truth God’s Word. Want that in a word? It’s believe. No person in history or living today speaks truth as God does…truth sets the human soul free! Read your Bible.
In it you will find Jesus…He is the WAY. He is the TRUTH.
“But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.”
John 20:31
