Light Seed

We know about seed.

Put a seed in soil, add water and sunlight…boom… a small green plant begins to emerge from the earth where it was planted. There is a word to describe this process-miracle. A gardener or farmer may fertilize, precisely plant the seed at an exact depth, even irrigate it with water, but no human past or present has ever caused a seed to grow.

The power of God causes the germination of seed…any seed.

In the Bible, Dr. Luke recorded a brief series of sentences Jesus spoke about sowing seed, the seed Sower and right after these He spoke about lamps. Specifically, a lighted lamp and how the lamp light can be seen. Read the key passages for context.

Luke 8:5a 5 “A farmer went out to sow his seed…”

Luke 8:11 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.

Luke 8:16-18  ““No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light. Take care then how you hear, for to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away.””

Let’s keep the meaning of the words of Dr. Luke-but use different words. There are five truths found in Luke chapter 8 about the Sower, seed and light.

1.       God is the eternal gardener. If you like farmer better use farmer.

2.       God’s word is light.

3.       Since God’s word is light, God plants light.  Allow me to give it a name: “Light Seed.”

4.       God plants Light Seed in the human heart…some hearts are hard, some rocky, some choked with weeds, and some fertile where Light Seed can grow.

5.       When God plants His Light Seed in your heart, let it grow!

God has planted Light Seed since the beginning. He plants His seed in every living human heart. We both know some Light Seed never gets into the fertile soil of the heart. Some hearts are hard like a packed earth path. There are hearts covered with rocks. Light Seed can fall between the rocks, God’s word may even begin to “grow” in that heart. But no root can be established, it’s not long, and the tiny Light Seed dies. We know a rocky garden or farm is a place for failure. Failure happens in weed choked farms and gardens. Human hearts focused on possessions, success, fame, popularity and pleasure choke Light Seed like a weed patch.

There is a first-rate question to be asked about this. Why does God plant Light Seed? Why does God sow His word in the human heart? It is a pleasure to provide the answer. It can be given in one word:

LOVE.

God loves the world. He sows His Light Seed in human hearts. The heart where God’s word begins to grow shines like a lamp. Everyone knows that if a lamp is to work we don’t put a blanket or a box on it.

Wonder why humans have eyes? Eyes are not only to keep us from tripping over things and seeing the surrounding world. Our eyes can also “see” others where God’s Light Seed has taken root and is flourishing. Jesus can actually dwell in the human heart. When Jesus is present, love is present. A human heart filled with Jesus makes a difference in a person others can see.

Don’t waste time wondering if God will plant His “light seed” in our hearts. He loves us. He will, He is.

Want Light Seed to flourish in your heart?

Clear out the rocks…all the hard things you let cover your heart.

Pull up the weeds…all of the world’s distractions that take your focus, interest and energies.

Let Jesus be in charge.

Guess what? There is One who can actually make seed germinate-you already know who He is: Jesus.

God is planting His Light Seed in our hearts at this moment.
