Sick
You won't like this. But since truth does have the power to free us…
Here we go...
You and I are sick. That’s right…sick.
Wait...we aren't the only ones.
Every human alive today is sick.
That would make this a massive worldwide pandemic. Wouldn’t it?
Does that help? Probably not…Let me explain.
Some details first-To add to the problem-most people look well. They are able to function and live what seems like a normal life. But we can know who is infected. The symptoms are lying, immorality, debauchery, idols, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and more like murder. This sickness especially effects the end of life. It is worse than any physical illness which affects the body. Untreated, it leads to certain and everlasting agony...to the worst thing that could happen to any human-a separation from God…death of our souls.
Yup...this sickness is very, very bad.
Remember Levi? He was a tax collector in Israel when he was first introduced. He was infected...then cured. Yes-There is a cure for this awful sickness of sin. It is the best news you and I will hear.
The cure is Jesus.
This is why Levi, former dishonest tax collector, held a banquet. He knew he was cured! He celebrated!
At the time there were some who did not realize how sick they were. You can read about it. (There are people today who do not realize their terminal condition either.)
In these verses below from Luke, Jesus is very clear about why He came to earth.
Only Jesus can save us from our sins...He is our perfect hope. He is the cure for the terminal disease of sin.
“Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”” Luke 5:29-32
If we listen, we can hear… Jesus is calling.
