Can You Find Truth?
Is real truth permanently gone-forever?
Have you wished you knew the truth? We take sides on truth. One side says this is truth. The other side contradicts, “No this is the truth.” Both sides often use guilt to convince us that their “truth” is real truth. Since creation, people have sought truth. The 5th Roman Governor of Judea, Pontius Pilate, asked Jesus, “What is truth?” We long for truth as a deer pants for water on a scorching summer day. In every century of human existence there has been a search for truth…authentic, real, honest truth.
It does exist.
What is truth? To answer that question, we begin with synonyms for truth: fact, certainty, reality, and actuality. Yes, truth is fact. It but to be fact, it must equally be certain. It helps us to confirm truth if we can see and touch, reality makes truth believable.
Let’s take our thoughts one step further. What kind of truth are we speaking of in our search for it? We both know about “shades” of truth. We have read and heard, “My truth is not your truth.” We also read and are told there is such a thing as “diversity of truth.” That must mean many truths. We are even told truth is in the “middle.”
With so many alternate truths, we discover a sober reality: uncertainty. When your truth is not the same as my truth, or my neighbors, or your neighbor’s; uncertainty is a guarantee. Lack of unity is another product of relative truth. Possibly the most serious outcome of a lack of truth is fear. You may agree: there are many who live in fear today. The absence of truth is the core reason.
Is there pure truth?
Yes.
Finding truth is surprisingly not difficult. Search with me, we will find truth.
First, we find truth in the natural world. Because clouds are among my favorite things in nature, we’ll use clouds. Clouds form from water vapor. Heat from the sun evaporates water from surfaces like lakes, rivers and oceans. Tiny water vapor droplets form on equally tiny particles of dust, or even ocean salt. Everywhere on earth, liquid water becomes invisible water by the process of evaporation. It is when a liquid is transformed into an invisible gas. Yet when many invisible water droplets rise, they become visible in the form of clouds.
This basic information about clouds and cloud formation is all truth. Cloud formation follows known physical truths. Science has discovered these truths over time. But the truths about clouds, weather and the water cycle have been known since the beginning. Does truth have a beginning? What if it does?
Let’s clarify what we mean by truth. The truth we are thinking about here is truth from God. Authentic, eternal, untainted by any human version of truth.Real truth comes from God. The closer we are to God the nearer we are to truth…and God’s truth sets every human free.
Jesus taught His disciples about truth. He clearly told them how to find it. We find His words about truth in John chapter 16:13:
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.”
Seems unbelievable doesn’t it? We can’t see or audibly hear the Holy Spirit...can’t touch the Holy Spirit, yet this invisible person in the Trinity of God has come to earth to “guide you into all truth.” All of our life experience says it is truth if we can touch, or see. But there is an unseen world. It is God’s eternal world. He reigns there...and on the current earth; all are God’s. Yet in our current life on earth God has chosen to not physically reveal Himself. Why? I do not know. But-One day, all will see Him-that day every knee WILL bow before Him. We will see Him as He IS and we will fall to our knees knowing He is God.
Want truth?
We all do.
We can ask God for it. Ask and the unseen, real Holy Spirit will guide us to truth. Our search for truth begins with prayer. You can find truth. Certainty and an end to fear are in this truth. God alone is truth.
