Unflappable

Unflappable…it means no flaps doesn’t it? My mental image is of a curtain blowing out of a open window in the wind…the end sails up and down. It flaps in the wind. There is no control. The curtain is at the mercy of the wind formed air currents. Curtains aren’t made for flapping. They are not designed for the rough treatment of blowing in the wind. Let a curtain flap too long…it becomes frayed.

People are not made for flapping in the wind either. We “flap” when life seems out of control. When we are bounced around by the trials of life our nerves become frayed, worn, stretched to breaking. People need a sense of security. We need the knowledge that things will be OK. When humans “flap” in the wind, hope soon flies away.

No one wants their address to include “Hopeless.”

I present three photos to you.

They are the antithesis of Flappable or Hopeless.

Look at the Black capped Chickadee.

I have never in my life observed a Black capped Chickadee display any behavior but bird optimism…if there is such a thing the Black Capped Chickadee has it.

Just one question…where did this little bird get such unflappable optimism?

There is only one place: God.

Draw a conclusion with me. If God will give a bird species an unflappable spirit; won’t He provide the same for us?

Do you need unflappable optimism?

I am certain we can ask.

God will provide.

Safely perched in an Ash tree, this Black capped Chickadee is ready to fly down to the feeder for another sunflower seed.

Sunshine on a Black capped Chickadee: peaceful.

When the shutter activated for the previous photo, this Black capped Chickadee simply tilted its head for a glance…and then went back to filling its tiny crop with sunflower nuts. Unflappable.

Just a sharp beak and two agile feet…another sunflower opened to fuel the always busy, never flappable Black capped Chickadee.

Need a bigger bird?

How about an Eagle?

Unflappable.

…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
