We've Heard of Your Fame

Who was Habakkuk? Why should anyone care? Here’s a reason- his words are truth. Yes, true even though written about 2,600 years ago. The second reason?  They have an amazing relevance for today. He could have written these words about today instead of about Jerusalem around 600 BC.

Here is a quick explanation of this man. We’ll use Wikipedia for this, “Habakkuk, who was active around 612 BC, was a prophet whose oracles and prayer are recorded in the Book of Habakkuk, the eighth of the collected twelve minor prophets in the Hebrew Bible. He is revered by Jews, Christians, and Muslims.”

Wikipedia recognizes Habakkuk was a Biblical prophet. He was a real person. Because he lived so long ago does not diminish the power of his words. In the quote above we read his “oracles and prayer” are recorded in this 35th book of the Bible…Habakkuk.

The central focus of Creatorwords is to remind us of the glory, greatness, almighty power and love of God. A Jewish prophet, inspired by God wrote these words millennia ago. He lived in a time of violence, evil deeds and injustice. Do these words apply today?

How long, Lord, must I call for help,

    but you do not listen?

Or cry out to you, “Violence!”

    but you do not save?

Why do you make me look at injustice?

    Why do you tolerate wrongdoing?

Destruction and violence are before me;

there is strife, and conflict abounds.

Therefore, the law is paralyzed,

    and justice never prevails.

The wicked hem in the righteous,

so that justice is perverted. Habakkuk 1:2-4

God answered him- twice. Read the two chapters in the conversation he had with God.

Then Habakkuk responded to God’s gracious answers with a prayer. Read his first words below,

“I have heard all about you, Lord. I am filled with awe by your amazing works. In this time of our deep need, help us again as you did in years gone by. And in your anger, remember your mercy.”

Habakkuk 3:2

This is my prayer of response.

May we be filled with knowledge of the “FAME” of God. May we stand in awe of His deeds. Lord we pray you would repeat your awesome deeds today that in this time we may give you glory. We deserve your wrath. Instead of wrath you gave us your mercy. We praise you oh God for your greatest deed: sending Jesus.

Read the rest of the prayer. Guarantee-It will bless you.

Birds are a part of the infinite FAME of God. These Cedar Waxwings show us the power and divine nature of God.
