Gold Gate
Everyone knows about the Golden Rule…agreed? Sure, you know…
“Do to the other person what you want done to you?”
However-When we think of what Jesus said in this way we have skipped the context. Because we like short cuts-We leave out words to make the saying easier to repeat. Look at the first three words of the Golden Rule. ”So, in everything.”
12 “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”
The first word of the Golden Rule is “SO.”
It’s not a throwaway word. To understand the Golden Rule as Jesus taught begin with “SO.” The word connects how we are to treat others to what Jesus taught about prayer…and “SO” includes the entire context of the Sermon on the Mount to this point.
What does Jesus mean here? In EVERYTHING“ask, seek, knock.” (Includes how we treat others.)
Want a better understanding of the Sermon on the Mount? Would you be interested in becoming the person God has made you to be? Do this: Get a Bible. Open it to Matthew 5. Now read the topic headings in each section of the sermon. Jesus started the sermon with the beatitudes. Judging others was the start of chapter 7. The Sermon on the Mount is a message about how a human being is to live earthly life. Jesus covers how we are to live earthly lives in the Sermon on the Mount.
In Matthew 7:12 Jesus said, “SO…IN EVERYTHING.”
Then he spoke the words …”do to others what you would have them do to you.” How do we know what to do to others?
Simple.
Ask Jesus first. Seek the wisdom of God about the Golden Rule. Knock on the door of heaven to know how to love your neighbor as yourself.
Simple.
Jesus gives the Golden Rule. He understands our sinful natures. Only He can give us strength to understand and love others as we love ourselves. What about the other verses?
The “Two Gate”verses?
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”Luke 7:13-25
These verses teach about heaven and eternal life.
Jesus says the heaven gate is small and narrow.
The Bible gives a name for the Heaven Gate: Jesus.
Jesus actually said HE is the gate:
7 “Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep…” John 10:7
Do not become offended by the truth in verse 14…or John 10:7.
The enemy of the human race would have us believe a lie. The Devil says, “There are many ways to heaven.” Do not believe it. He is the Father of LIES.
Believe Jesus…He is “the way, the truth, the life.”
In everything He teaches us how to live.
He is the Gold WAY.
He is the GATE to Heaven.
