Three Verbs

A verb is an action word. Consider that a reminder. Action.

These are action words: ask, seek, knock.

Jesus used these words as He taught about prayer. He did not use the word pray…

He said “Ask. Seek. Knock.”

Matthew 7:7-11

Ask, and It Will Be Given

[7] “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. [8] For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. [9] Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? [10] Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? [11] If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”

These verbs are an invitation. Jesus calls us to action. Speak with Him in prayer. Do we understand the significance of this invitation? The King of the Universe says “Ask me.” He says “Seek me, knock on my door.”

These verbs also come with guarantees.

Ask: “It will be given.”

Seek: “You will find.”

Knock: “The door will be opened.”

Don’t brush these words aside as light weight promises. These are the words of the King who died for you and me. His shed blood is absolute assurance that when we seek Jesus in prayer, HE ALWAYS KEEPS HIS PROMISES.

For those who hear what Jesus says, (Ask, seek, knock) but doubt Him; Jesus says:

[11] If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11)

Three verbs. Spoken by the King of the Universe…three personal invitations to speak directly with Him. Now see the love behind these words. Last, see the power of God in these words.

Ask.

Seek.

Knock.

It will be given.

You will find.

The door you thought forever closed will be opened-to you.

This is no ordinary invitation.
