Passover...Past...Present

Passover had come again.

To those Jews who still observed the Passover, this was an important day.

The first Passover happened to the ancestors of the Jewish people who would observe Passover the day Jesus and His disciples did. Those Jewish ancestors weren't in Jerusalem, they weren't even in Israel. They were slaves in a foreign country...Egypt. These ancestors were miserably oppressed.

The first Passover was God's final miraculous act in rescuing the Jewish people from slavery. Every first-born son of every Jewish family was saved from death if the family killed a lamb and spread some of its blood on the doorposts of the house. On the first Passover every first born son of an Egyptian was killed. The Bible account reads this way:

"At midnight the Lord struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock." Exodus 12.29

Jesus sent Peter and John to prepare a place and prepare the meal that would observe this miraculous Passover...God “passing over” those who trust in Him.

"So Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat it.” Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. They said to him, “Where will you have us prepare it?” He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him into the house that he enters and tell the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ And he will show you a large upper room furnished; prepare it there.  And they went and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover." Luke 22:7-13

Dear Friend...God controlled the first Passover. Years later, He sent Peter and John to make preparations for the Passover with Jesus in the upper room. And-He has created this day-everything about it. He controls all-even our next breath. He continues to “Pass over” those who believe in Jesus.

It is a life skill to remember history...to look at the past.

Jesus truly did observe the Jewish Passover with His disciples. Today we call it “The Last Supper.”

And…God most certainly is in control of all things.

Therefore-God makes history.

It's what Sovereign means.

What happened after this "Last Supper?"

Another "Lamb" was slain.

Remember that.

It really happened.

It's history.
