Road Map for Life Now and After-Two Events from History
These things-two historical events-reveal forever truth.
Both are the foundation to life now and in the forever future. Sort of like a map, they provide guidance for daily life and life after. Failure to know and believe them brings causes two more related facts to become a problem. There are many who have never heard of these two events. There are many others who consider these two truths unimportant. Truth sets us free.
Here are the two truths:
1. “Jesus wept.” As He neared Jerusalem, Jesus was overwhelmed with sorrow for what He knew would happen to the people of Jerusalem. Why would that make Jesus weep? Jesus loves the world. He weeps over you and me if we deny Him.
2. “They will not leave one stone on another.” The cause of deep sorrow for Jesus was His knowledge that Romans would destroy Jerusalem. The people were either killed or shipped away as slaves. This is recorded history. (Read more-click on this link: https://www.understandyourbible.org/info/destruction-jerusalem-70-ad)
“And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.” Luke 19:41-44
Did you just read this? One more time-you’ve just read world history.
A real man-Jesus-came to Jerusalem-saw it and wept over it. Why? The coming destruction caused Jesus to break down in sorrow. Fact God, in the flesh, wept over Jerusalem. Fact two, in 70 AD, a Roman Legion tore the city of Jerusalem apart-stone by stone. We’ve already stated what happened to the people of Jerusalem.
Now, we have two historical facts out in the open. We can think about them. We can remember them. But it would be highly unwise to dismiss them as unnecessary or not applicable in our society today. Yes, you and I need to know these two facts.
So what? Why you ask?
Because not knowing them denies you and me from knowledge of two related truths every human should know. The second set of truths come from the first two. The second set of truths are actually MORE important than the first two. But we do not need riddles. We need truth.
Now for the two related truths.
1. Jesus wept because-
He loves you and me as He loved Jerusalem.
That means we can have a relationship with the Creator of the World. We understand that influential, powerful people are important to have in our lives. No one is more powerful or influential than Jesus. Jesus wept-He weeps over our sins and failures. He wants us to know He loves us.
2. “Not leave one stone on another. “What truth does this reveal?
Justice belongs to God.
As Jerusalem was destroyed because the Jews would not acknowledge God, there will be a far greater judgment one day. Jesus will return to earth to judge the living and the dead. All people will be judged by God’s standards for the lives they lived. He will not leave one stone on another.
Honest, truth sets us free. Go about your day today and every day thereafter keeping these two historical truths in mind:
Jesus loves me.
One day He will judge the whole earth with His perfect justice.
Think of these truths as a road map for life today, the way to freedom,
…and life forever.
