Tired of the Truth Yet?

Sometimes we need to have truth repeated.

In our last text from Luke Jesus said “Life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.”

One answer to the question “Where do I find life?” Answer is “It’s not in riches and stuff-it’s not here.” But we like our stuff…we think money is the answer…repeat-it’s not here.

Now for the message again-Luke recorded a parable from Jesus on riches. The words of the one who created the universe are words to heed. Jesus is teaching about riches-and what to do with them.

“And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.””

Luke 12:16-21

What is one thing most people who become rich do? Think horde. The rich man in the parable did. It happens regularly when someone becomes rich.

Jesus did not speak against wealth. But-He warned of its dangers. We both know we can be greedy…so let this first truth reach home in your mind.

Then…there is one more thing to take away from today’s verses.

Be rich towards God.

Life everlasting is here.

Jesus wants us to have a rich relationship with Him. We don’t need to fear greed. We don’t need to fear death. We can take the riches of a relationship with Jesus WITH US WHEN WE DIE!

The riches we have with Jesus do not rust.

They cannot be stolen.

There is no expiration date.

How do we gather riches with Jesus?

+pick up a Bible…read it.

+stop busy life long enough to pray (you’ll find you actually have more time) A rich friendship with Jesus begins with prayer. Tell Him about your life.

+go to a church where the Bible is taught…listen to podcasts that teach the Bible when you can’t.

Where is true life found?

It’s not here-not on earth with its riches.

It’s with Jesus-in heaven which is eternal.
