It's Not Here

Just yesterday this topic came up again…it’s about inheritance. And guess what subtopic is almost always found with the subject of inheritance?

Did you guess strife, argument and conflict? It is a rare estate that can be divided among heirs without conflict. Why is strife and conflict so frequently found at the dispensation of an estate?

Answer: because we (you and I too) believe that life is best with many possessions. You know: property, assets, cars, clothes, …STUFF! We think the more we have the better our lives will be.

It’s not here.

It’s not there-in someone else’s estate.

Life is not found in possessions. Have you ever seen a coffin stuffed with the persons possessions? An urn even less! We can’t take possessions with us at death. Fact-one day death will come.

Jesus tells us this truth in today’s verses:

“Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.””

Luke 12:13-15

What else did Jesus say? Did He mention coveting? What do we know about coveting? Covetousness…is wanting what someone else has. It’s a despair pit. It’s an open grave of suffering. We both covet-Sorry to be blunt. We covet the things others have because we believe life is found in possessions.

It’s not there.

Life is found in a person.

His name is Jesus.

All of us have an inheritance made in heaven…If we choose to believe.

When we believe in Jesus…we have perfect place-prepared by Jesus for us in heaven.

This is real life! Say it like it is-eternal life!

Possessions can be stolen.

They rust and corrode.

They mold and wear out.

Our stuff ends on the scrap heap.

No earthly possession lasts.

Through Jesus we have the offer of an eternal inheritance.

He freely gives it to those who believe in HIM.
