Light in Us
Is there light in you? Not sun light, Son-light.
We come to the place in history where Jesus speaks about “the light in you.” What does Jesus mean? Begin by considering light. To do that ponder this question-where does light come from? Again…from where does light originate? The one word answer: God.
God Spoke light into existence…“And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.”
Genesis 1:3
Light comes from God…God makes light…HE has since the world began. God has created two kinds of light. First there is physical light- God made it. Second, there is spiritual light. God made this too. Spiritual light is the presence of God in a human. Spiritual light comes from Jesus. He said so:
“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.””
John 8:12
With this for background read this text from Luke:
““No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness. Therefore, be careful lest the light in you be darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, as when a lamp with its rays gives you light.””
Luke 11:33-36
What is Jesus talking about here?
It is this: When we believe Jesus is God’s Son who died for our sins-The spiritual light of God enters our hearts. Jesus tells us to let our God light shine! He goes on to say our souls are healthy when they are filled with the “light” of God. Without God’s light in our hearts, we are in “darkness…” Think of it, it is possible for people to live their entire lives in spiritual “darkness.” That is, without the spiritual light of God.
A life lived without God’s light does not have the peace of God. A life lived in spiritual darkness does not have the hope only God through Jesus can give. And a life lived in darkness cannot have the love of Jesus shining through. Spiritual darkness is not what you and me were made for.
If we are trusting Jesus as our Savior…Jesus reminds us in these verses: “Let your “light” shine! Faith, hope and love come from Jesus. He gives us strength and He fills our lives with spiritual light. In Him, we can let our inner “light” shine. The presence of Jesus in a person is noticeable. Love is the most excellent way.
