The One Question Quiz

What is the most important decision ANY human can make? Wait, let’s make this question stronger- your entire life depends on this one question. Just to be clear-nothing else you or I do matters more than this. This one question and your entire life depends on it.

You can find the question in this Bible text.

“And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”” Luke 10:25-28

It wasn’t hard. There is only one question in the verses..."What shall I do to inherit eternal life?" The hard part is knowing the answer-then doing it.

The lawyer, the one who was an expert in earthly law, knew about eternity. The lawyer also believed there must be a way to enter the eternal world. One more-the lawyer saw Jesus as one who could answer difficult questions-even though he was skeptical about the authenticity of Jesus. He was testing Jesus.

Take a serious look at the question again-"What shall I do to inherit eternal life?" It is the most important question you and I face in our entire lives. It is a question we must be able to answer. There is an eternity. There is true life after death. In His answer, Jesus said there are two things that must be done. Honestly- we can do neither without God's help.

Surprisingly, the lawyer already knew the answer: love God with all your soul, all your strength and all your mind...and part 2-love your neighbor as yourself. Consider your own life. Do these seem impossible? How does a human love God like that? And love your neighbor as yourself? We both know that's just as impossible.

There is hope. Keep in mind one key fact in this impossible situation-this is it: with God ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE. When our strength fails. God gives us strength to do both! And when we fail again-He forgives us...He restores us and gives us strength to love Him and our neighbor anew. You are thinking, “this seems too easy.” But remember this: "For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”” (Romans 10:13)

Loving God and our neighbors is consistently possible with Jesus. He went to the cross for all the times we fail to love God and our neighbor. Life's most important question brings us to Jesus. In the quiz we sometimes call LIFE, there is one answer: Jesus.
