From Luke 6:17-19.

Knowing the order of things enables us to understand truth. This is the sequence of events for this passage of scripture:

 

To begin…Jesus had just prayed all night.

Then, in the morning He chose the 12 disciples.

 

The verses of the text explain what came next.

 

He went down the mountain-and the disciples were with him.

Once down the mountain, Jesus met the large crowd that had come to Him for healing and to listen to His teaching. These next words are important…“Power was coming from Him.” These are the verses:

 

“He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon, who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by impure spirits were cured, and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all.”

Luke 6:17-19

 

Both of us should take notice-power…came from Jesus.

You wonder, what kind of power?

Let’s get it right.

The words of the scripture say “the people all tried to touch Him.” Can you imagine the first person who touched Jesus and was instantly healed? It that were you or I wouldn’t we with loud unrestrained voices shout the truth? “Touch Jesus and you will be healed!!” The word ALL is in these words of scripture. From that we know that the word about touching Jesus had gone around. Everyone in the entire region knew. “Touch Jesus and you will be healed…your physical body and your soul!” No wonder Jesus had to get into a boat to speak with the people. No wonder His disciples tried to shield and protect Him.

 

But, you are thinking-that was 2000 years ago.

Does power still come from Jesus?

 

It does.

He is God. Has Jesus changed?

Not one tiny micron…

The power of Jesus changed the hearts of people that day.

“Those trouble by evil spirits were cured.”

 

Here is the fact…Jesus is the same yesterday, today, forever.

We are wise to do as those people did that day.

At this time, they went to Jesus…because Jesus was on earth in human flesh at the time, the people had to walk to Him. Today-He is in the room, car, office, whatever place you are reading this-with you. (every where present)

Power is comes from Jesus-now. Eternal, infinite, perfect power…filled with love comes from Jesus-at this moment. You and I can tell Him all our sorrows, all the heart ache evil spirits have caused us, our worries, troubles, needs…He has the power…over all things.

 

Power COMES from Jesus!

His power is for our good.

The power of Jesus heals.

Love does that.

 

But, you ask, how can we touch Jesus today? He is not visible…but He is near. In the Bible, Jesus also said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.” What door is that you wonder? It is the door of your heart! We don’t have to touch Jesus…He is already outside our heart’s door. How can we touch Jesus? Simple, say, “Jesus come into my heart.” The power of Jesus comes to everyone who “opens” the door.
