Prepare the Way
You and I need someone to prepare the way for the future… a John the Baptist to speak the truth into our lives.
Wherever he went, John went powerfully… with great conviction, and told people of their greatest need: to repent and turn from their sin.
It’s 2021, have things changed?
These words are from Luke…
“In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar—when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and Traconitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene— during the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness. He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him. Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. And all people will see God’s salvation.’ ”” Luke 3:1-6
Truth…things have not changed since the time of John the Baptist. We forget. We become preoccupied with other things. We need a personal John the Baptist today to teach us that Jesus IS coming-again. We daily need reminders that we are sinful. Those reminders lead us to make a “straight way” to Jesus. Only He can forgive our sins. Each day we can go to Jesus and confess our sins. You ask, didn’t He forgive my sins once for all time when I first believed?
He did.
Yet, forgiven as we are, we continue to sin. We both know.
In Jesus we are forgiven.
When we love Him, we confess our sins to Him each day.
One day-and the day is truly coming… “all people will see God’s salvation.”
As we confess our sins, we are ready for that day. John told those who listened to prepare the way for the Lord…
listen…the echos of his words can be heard today.
