Power and Greatness United

Do you like flowers? No? We can change that.

Even the macho-man likes these…Pasque Flowers (Pulsatilla patens). These delicate lavender flowers may be the boldest flowers in the plant world. Call it a Prairie Crocus if you wish.

Why should you become excited about them?

Tough-the Pasque flower begins flowering in late March. Even in snow, see the “hairs” on the stem? They enable the plant to withstand below freezing temperatures. Pasque flowers are the first to bloom on a prairie landscape. The flowers in the photos are growing on a prairie. It is a gravel hill.

Amazing-see the yellow stamens in the center of the flower? There are between 150 and 200 of them. The white bundle of pistals is surrounded by the stamens. The center of the flower is framed in a delicate but tough ring of lavender sepals, making a whole flower that is unquestionably beautiful.

While tough and beautiful make the Pasque Flower worthy of our attention, there is a less obvious truth which should mesmerize us...

Why become excited about a flower blooming in a field?

Here is the million dollar question:

How can a flower be so powerful and at the same time so delicate?

The Pasque flower is in a class by itself.

The Pasque flower is magnificent reason to praise God. In this flower we see both power and greatness… “Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Psalm 150:2

This flower has one of spring’s early pollinators on it…a Sweat Bee, it’s green!

The photos, all 17, are my gift to you today. Enjoy each photo, look for details, be amazed…praise God!
