The Week of Godsend

These numbers were last week’s miracles: 55, 68, 72, 61, 73, 64, 72.
Truthfully, one of them-72 was yesterday.
Today’s number is currently 31.
Tonight’s number will be around 20.
What are these numbers for? They represent the high temperatures (in F.) which occurred last week. 20 F will be tonight’s low. Why should we make these numbers a topic of our discussion? Is it worth your time to know this data?
It is.
Knowing these numbers will help us both with our amnesia. Knowing these numbers may even calm our fears. Knowing these numbers enables us to look for “Godsends.”
Surprised to discover we both have amnesia? This is fact one. Give me a moment, I’ll explain. We forget a simple reality …God is in control. He is in control of our personal lives. He controls the world…the universe for that matter. How do the numbers which actually occurred as high temperatures last week show us God is in control? Remember, we live in a world of facts. We relate numeric data to each other every day. Numbers are part of science; we use science to dictate our behaviors. Need an example? Consider our response to the world-wide pandemic. These numbers are recorded fact, they are first a cure for our amnesia induced forgetfulness about who is in control. I respectfully state once more, humans are not.
Last week’s high temperature numbers do not fit weather record averages for this time of year. For those who live in temperate climates…the numbers you are about to see are highly unusual for the North Central region of America. Look for yourself…
High temperature records were set on more than one day of this record setting November weather. It was like having a week of summer…just before winter.
There is another reality. A friend recognized it and pointed it out to me last week-during the unusual, unseasonable weather we experienced. The mild weather was a blessing. It would be accurate to consider 8 days with highly above average temperatures a miracle. The moderate among us would say, “That’s too strong!” In that case we can describe the marvelous weather as a “Godsend.”
What happened during the highly unseasonable warmth of last week? Farmers completed fall harvest. Allow me to remind that it was delayed almost two weeks when we received 10 inches of snow and accompanying cold in the middle of October. What happened? Many people went outside. Many people walked and strengthened their immune systems. The spirits of entire communities were lifted.
Consider one more fact. No scientist on any earth continent influenced this week of warmth and sunshine during November. No cloud seeding, no wind shift machine, no barometric pressure tool was used, they do not exist. No good weather wand was waved, there never has been such a thing.
Seven days of unseasonable warmth and beautiful late fall weather were not a simple coincidence either. My friend, whose idea it was originally, explained it differently; “This shows us God’s love.” He said this with confidence and certainty. He was convinced he was witnessing the generous love and mercy of God. Changing climate, even for 8 days, is entirely within the power of God. And this week…God has changed our weather back to normal. This afternoon the temperature is 31 F…that is 42 degrees colder than the warmest day of last week.
And you know? I agree.
Finally, two things: God is always in control. His control is wise and perfect. Be glad, because He loves you…and me. And a third thing…last week was a Godsend. Want to enjoy your life? There are Godsends EVERY day. Ask Him to show them to you. The weather, and everything else in the universe is in the powerful, perfect hands of God.
