The Turning of a Page
A nature page turned today. It is the conclusion page.
The nesting season is officially and successfully over.
This spring, the eggs in nests hatched. The young geese grew. Downy chick feathers became adult...by summer, young geese grew to look like their parents.
Now, in late fall days, they have flexed their wing muscles and used their new flight feathers to join the flock. My eyes saw them this afternoon. Flock after flock, all beaks pointed in one direction.
They flew with their parents toward the south. Toward open water, free of ice.
They flew toward warm air. Their eyes saw things today they've never seen before. It is a delight to watch the pages of nature turn.
The late fall page is one of my favorites.
